Cool Story from Australia

Check out this e-mail I got from Chris Friend, the head of IPHC in Australia. This happened to 2 people in his church.
I wanted to share something with you that happened last night. Our God is truly amazing!

Shannon and I went to the movies last night and at about 12am when we were driving home we saw a man on Wanneroo Road who looked like he was unconscious. I kept driving and wondered whether I should turn around. I called 000 and felt that God was prompting me to go back to him. I was always taught to wait with the person that I call an ambulance for, so this is what we did.

When we drove up to the man, the first thing I noticed was how young he was, probably about 19 or 20 years old. I was not sure what to do and prayed that God guide us. I felt frightened and helpless. I have a first aid certificate but felt powerless to use it because I did not know this young man’s character and didn’t want to get too close to him. I yelled out to him and there was no response. He was not breathing at all!

I sat back in the car with Shannon and we decided to pray. We prayed for a miracle. The second that we finished praying, Shannon called out “his fingers are moving!” Sure enough, he was tapping his fingers and suddenly took a very large gasp of air. He began to breath very deep breaths. Shannon and I were both in disbelief and knew then and there that we witnessed a miracle.

The young man began to stir and slowly sat up. He was looking at the sky and at this stage did not realise that we were there. He was repeatedly saying “Heavenly Father, Heavenly Father”. You could imagine the shock. I called out to him asking if he was ok and told him that we called an ambulance for him. He kept looking at the sky and repeating “Heavenly Father”. He turned around and out of the blue asked me if I was a Christian. I said yes and my friend here is also. He began to tell us how he was raised around Christian people. I asked him if he knew how he got to where he was and at first he said no. Then he said “it’s either the bridge or the road”. It was then that I saw paint cans and realised he was trying to commit suicide. He was using the paint to get high and find the false courage to kill himself. I said to him it wasn’t his time tonight and he replied by saying “I know the Heavenly Father is watching out for me tonight”. I asked him how he felt about this and he said he was in pain and now he was in more pain because he has hurt his Heavenly Father. I told him that he was a child of God and that God loves him so much. He said yes he knows this and kept looking at the sky and then looking at us. At this point, the ambulance came and we were asked to leave immediately.

His name is Luke and he lives in Westminster. We prayed for him while continuing the trip home. We prayed that God would continue to surround him with Christian people, that a speck of hope was planted that would never be taken away, that he would truly know God’s love for him. We also prayed that the paramedics would have compassion on him and not see him as another “druggie”. I would invite you to join with us in prayer for him.

My point in telling you this story is this: We actually missed our turn off from the freeway home and had to double back to get on the right road. If we had gone the normal way we would not have seen him. It was God’s plan that we meet this man. I realised upon reflection that God sent us to this man. Shannon and I did not have the experience to know what to do in this situation, but we trusted in God that he would put words in our mouths and show us what to do. We listened to the Father and followed his lead and not only did that young man live another night but we were able to share God’s love with him.

I would encourage you that when you hear those little promptings to say one phrase, to go back and talk to someone, to pick up the phone, to chat to your neighbour etc, that you are bold and do it. Our lives with God are destined and responding to the “go” promptings really glorify God and show us why we are here.
